(May 30, 2025) I-Pulse Co-Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Robert Friedland, discussed the increasing global demand for critical minerals necessary to the energy transition on CNN.
In a discussion with CNN’s Max Foster in Kazakhstan, Friedland revealed the scale of the increasing demand for critical minerals, both in terms of nations increasing their energy transition efforts, and as nations ramp up their defense spending and build up defense infrastructure.
Friedland explained that “the way technology’s evolving, it’s more and more energy-intensive, and more and more metals-intensive. Of course, AI uses huge amounts of electrical energy, and for that, you need metals like copper.” He went on to reveal that “we need to mine as much copper in the next 20 years, just to maintain 3% global GDP growth, as we have mined in human history.”
